Common questions

A little clarity goes a long way.

The basics of the service, the records, and what happens next.

What do you prepare?

Just S Corps focuses on Form 1120-S preparation for relatively straightforward, owner-operated S corporations. Any related filings included in the work are confirmed in your engagement. Partnership and C-corporation returns are outside this service.

Is this DIY software?

No. Just S Corps is a tax-preparation service provided by Trio Tax, LLC. The website’s fit check helps you understand a possible next step; it does not prepare a return or calculate your tax.

Who handles my return?

Tax preparation is provided by Trio Tax, LLC. Your return is handled by real tax professionals, with follow-up on questions that need attention.

How is the price determined?

We review your situation and records before confirming scope and price. Record condition, state filings, shareholder changes, payroll questions, prior-year issues, and unusual transactions can affect the work. Any additional work or change in scope is discussed before proceeding. The fit check does not provide a quote.

What records do I need?

A prior return, if available, your current income statement and balance sheet, and relevant payroll and ownership information are a useful starting point. Records from QuickBooks, Xero, Trio Ledger, spreadsheets, or your bookkeeper may be usable. After contact, we explain what your situation requires and how to share it.

What if my books are unfinished?

Let us know how far along they are. Incomplete records need review so we can understand what must be completed before return preparation. Bookkeeping cleanup is separate from the standard service, and its availability and any separate engagement must be confirmed. You can also use Trio Ledger, a free bookkeeping tool, to help get your books caught up.

What if this is my first S-corp return?

Choose the first-year option in the fit check. You may not have a prior S-corporation return, and that is something we can discuss. We will review the business’s status, available financial records, and relevant payroll and ownership information before confirming fit and scope.

What if I cannot find my prior return?

You can still start the conversation. A missing prior return needs a closer look, rather than an automatic rejection. We will discuss what information is available and what may be needed to move forward. Please do not send records through a general inquiry.

Do you prepare my personal return?

Personal tax-return preparation is separate from the standard Just S Corps S-corporation return-preparation scope. Availability, fees, and any separate engagement must be confirmed; a personal return is not automatically included.

Do you handle payroll or bookkeeping?

Payroll administration and bookkeeping are separate from the standard return-preparation scope. We may need payroll information or clarification of your records to prepare the S-corp return, but that does not include running payroll or maintaining your books. Availability and any separate engagement for those services must be confirmed.

What about multiple states?

Identify the states relevant to your business when you contact us so we can confirm support and scope. Multiple states call for a closer look; they do not automatically rule out a fit. State filings and related complexity may affect the price.

What happens after the fit check?

You see a preliminary result and an editable summary of your answers. Nothing is sent to us. You can copy the summary and contact us by phone or through the existing Trio Tax contact page to discuss the next step. The result is not a price, an acceptance of an engagement, or authorization to e-file.

How do I send documents?

Contact us first. We provide separate instructions for sharing tax records through an appropriate secure process. This public website has no tax-document upload feature. Do not send returns, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive records through a general inquiry.
